Ashe and doe gay moment

When I finally got back on Instagram, I realized the power of social media. They might look up to me because of my profession. Within a day, his personal life was a headline. This is why he doesn't care if he is persecuted for being gay, or if the public would malign his name.

Almost immediately, my manager called me. We can reverse it. Even with the mostly positive feedback on social media, Ashe was attuned to the risks and reality of being an openly queer Black man. Sadly, Ashe ended up being put back in his “cage” after their era’s reset.

He just wants to be himself with the man he loves. In high school, the worst thing you could be was gay. Meanwhile, Ashe, who is described by CBR as “pure and selfless”, wanted to be free from his “cage”, and never to be put back in it again. I know that on the other side of this is change, though the fight is far from over.

His supports with Marianne, Caspar, Byleth, and Ingrid are among my favorites, and I also like the support that was established and elaborated on between him and Yuri in Three Hopes. Smith went on to declare his love for Ashe in a series of photos, including one of them kissing.

It was funny to read those messages. But overall, the reaction was overwhelming—I had to leave Instagram for a while. I was just posting my loved one the same way my bro just posted his girlfriend for her birthday. Was it an accident? Our editors handpick the products that we feature.

Other people in my life were surprised, too. Ashe is just a super sweet and wholesome guy, so he’s got a lot of really great chill supports with a lot of the cast, and I adore many of his pairings. I honestly did not expect the post to go viral, for the internet to implode, for magazines to reach out and ask me to comment.

Ashe, who plays the sensitive and socially conscious Micah West on Queen Sugar , admits that until that day, his own engagement on social media was limited mainly to a professional capacity. Ashe credits his mother, who died in October , as being a constant and stabilizing force in his life while coming to terms with his sexuality and sharing it publicly.

Nic Ashe of "Queen Sugar" talks about coming out in an Instagram post that went viral, and Micah's queer romance on season 6 of the OWN series. That really resonated with me. He didn’t care if he is discriminated for being gay, as long as he’s out. People felt that I had done something brave by sharing this on a platform so large.

Below, Ashe shares his journey to queer liberation and how he hopes his honesty and authenticity will be a beacon to other queer Black men, both through his personal example and his art. What's worth noting is when Ashe and Hillinghead have their tender moments together, Ashe often speaks about wanting to come out of his "cage" and never be put back in again.

But until last summer, I kept the real Nic Ashe hidden from the public eye. Reading these responses, I realized I wanted my future roles to speak to them.

But really, I stand among them. I stand on the shoulders of the community of people who look like me and love like me who have come before me. People were reaching out to me from all over the world, talking about how they felt seen from the posts. This was the first time I had posted someone that I loved in that way, with such intimacy.

I am them. We had no idea. We never did that?
